MICROBIOLOGY

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

Microbiology Department of this College was established in the year 1994 to offer basic knowledge in the field of science especially to rural populations of the state and country.  Further, to enrich the research activity in the field of microbiology, the Post Graduate department was established during the year 1997.  This department has produced so far, 513 under graduate students and more than 400 Post graduate students and a good number of students are employed in various R&D institute, Universities and Private Sector as Chief Microbiologists, Quality Controller and Research fellows, etc., in India as well as in foreign countries.

Really, it is a boon to microbiologists that microbiology students can work in all field of life sciences including biotechnological field.

Scope for the microbiologists are good in food industry, pharmaceutical industry, mineral water industry, waste water treatment plant and clinical laboratory and also in research institute.  They can get senior level position in almost all type of industries with handsome salary.  They can also work as Scientist in enzyme production, cloning, animal and plant tissue culture, etc.,

Lab Facilities:

Microbiology department of the college is well equipped with sophisticated instruments  like laminar air flow chamber, air purifying system, fermentor, PCR, western blotting apparatus,  gel documentation system, plant tissue culture system, virus culturing equipments, centrifuges, histopathological equipments (microtome with staining chamber), video capturing system with microscope (Bright field, phase contrast, dark field, inverted microscope), etc., 

Library Facilities:

Students are provided with large number of international and Indian edition books and manuals. More than 50 Biological journals including 10 international journals and megacines, like current science, Nature Immunology, Indian Journal of Microbiology, Indian Journal of Medical Research, Indian Journal of Applied Microbiology, British Medical Journal.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Students of the UG Microbiology department are participating and presenting research papers in many national and international level seminars and winning prizes too. They win University ranks regularly from 2005 onwards.

Students of the post graduate department have received many government funded project sponsored by Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, Chennai.  They have awarded for best report presentation in various seminar conducted by universities, colleges.

Students of this department have secured 100 % results in selected papers in the university examinations.  They are continuously enriched with knowledge and sharpen their vision towards their curriculum. Students of this department regularly securing University ranks.

We take the average students and make them into a bright and brilliant outgoing student.  We take more importance on their education and personality skills.

Old students of the department are well placed in various industries, government, public sector, R&D institute, universities and colleges as Chief Microbiologist, Quality Controller, Research Fellow, Junior Scientific Officer, Research Director, etc., Some students are working in Pasteur Institute, Otty,  Biocon Ltd., Bangalore, Arabid Pharma, Hydarbad, Lupin, Mumbai, Hi-Media, Mumbai, Euraka and Fobers, Mumbai, Discard It, Chennai, Cavin Care Ltd., Pondicherry, BARC, Mumbai, etc.,
