CHEMISTRY
The Department of
Chemistry was started on the academic year 2003.It is one of
the most notable departments in Muthayammal College of Arts
& Science.
Role
Chemistry’s influence in
our life is abundant. In nutshell, without chemistry there
is nothing in the world. Our body is a complex of chemical
molecules having water, amino acids, carbohydrates, iron,
fats, oils, DNA, RNA, vitamins and many metals in minute
quantities. Any luxury in life means chemistry and its
applications. From dawn to dusk that is starting from paste,
brush to the food and medicaments in night are nothing but
chemistry in its different forms. Apart from the day to day
ordinary things paints, fertilizers, pesticides, medicines,
papers, food beverages and polymers such as PVC,
polyethylene, polyesters, rubbers chemistry is serving every
need.
Importance
Chemistry is the alpha and
omega of the world. One who enters the field of chemistry
surely could become a remarkable man. Chemistry is not only
theoretical but also a good practical and applied course.
Every minute, chemistry is growing and renewing itself and
it introduces new invaluable things to the world. In such a
way, the Department of Chemistry (MCAS) has importance in
the production of good chemists in the world!
Courses Offered
The Department of
chemistry offers chemistry courses at undergraduate as well
as postgraduate levels, on full-time basis.
Eligibility
| B.Sc.Chemistry |
A pass in Higher
Secondary Examination with a minimum of 55%
marks with Mathematics and Physics. |
| M.Sc.Chemistry |
B.Sc., Chemistry with
Mathematics and Physics as allied subjects.
B.Sc., Bio-chemistry and similar courses with
chemistry as one of the allied subjects with a
minimum of 55% marks. |
Course Objectives &
Job opportunities
Chemistry is one
department in which the students can go for higher studies
and jobs very easily. Chemistry has a wide scope not only in
teaching but also in technical line, like industry-based and
pharmaceuticals fields. Chemistry is the basis for all the
other fields such as Biochemistry, Microbiology,
Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, etc.
One who studies chemistry
has job opportunities as Lab Chemist, Analytical Chemist,
Quality Controller, Production Manager, Research Associate,
and Scientist in various institutions and industries.
Government has introduced many projects based on
electrochemical items, batteries, plating, cells, drug
synthesis, extraction of natural products, protein
purification etc. Many institutes and corporations in India
are recruiting graduates and post graduates in chemistry,
Central Electrochemical Research Institute at Karaikudi,
BABA atomic research institute in Mumbai, Atomic Power
station at Kalpakkam, Neyveli Lignite Corporation of India
(NLC) at Neyveli, to name but a few. These institutes offer
project fellowships and research project fellowships,
especially for chemistry students
