The discipline of Biochemistry has expanded by leaps and bounds. Biochemistry is a new branch of science which have contributed greatly to the development of molecular biology and understanding of molecular process underlying cell function which have led to breakthrough in medicine, immunology, endocrinology, therapeutics and drug designing, gene therapy, diagnosis etc., It operates at a molecular level and thus brings to light the hidden secrets of life. Biochemistry has not only enriched our knowledge about the nature of life, but also made Biochemistry the very language of life itself.

The department of biochemistry is engaged in developing the programmes of teaching and research with strong orientation towards the emerging concepts and techniques. This department is legendary in having trained and turned out students of knowledge. Since 1994 with the aim of providing the base for man power development in the field of biochemistry, It offers undergraduate , postgraduate , M.Phil (FT / PT) and Ph.D (FT / PT ) programmes in Biochemistry.
